The SJC helps people avoid legal problems and access fair solutions at the earliest opportunity. Our legal volunteers aim to help people find alternatives to going to court, resolve problems by themselves and are committed to providing people with high quality legal services.

Our volunteer lawyers come from a range of different backgrounds and bring a wealth of professional skills, knowledge and expertise in family and general law matters. We have an excellent retention rate of volunteer lawyers, and many have been involved for up to 10 years.

The SJC is committed to supporting law students and graduates gain valuable experience supervised and mentored by practicing lawyers. Students assist with note-taking in client meetings, research and general support.

Most of our volunteers will attend client meetings at the SJC at least once every 4-6 weeks for a two-hour evening session, however, we understand everyone’s schedules are different and are happy for you to assist more or less frequently. For further information or to register your interest, please fill out the contact form on this page, and we will respond to you as soon as possible.
