Our Story

The SJC was established informally in the late 1990’s as the Subiaco Legal Service and was run by a team of committed volunteer lawyers in temporary accommodation provided by the City of Subiaco.

In 2018, a group of these volunteers were determined to provide long-term stability and sustainability for the organisation and a Board was formed. The organisation became incorporated providing a strong foundation for growth and subsequently, the SJC established articles of association and obtained public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

The SJC is now governed by a hands-on, pro-active group of lawyers and business professionals that make up the Board. To date, the SJC has been completely self-funded with modest resources raised through fundraising events and sponsorship from the City of Subiaco and several corporate donors. The SJC is now poised to expand its offering and deliver a wide range of legal services to the community, particularly to those experiencing disadvantage.

Our Future
The SJC is now governed by a hands-on, pro-active group of lawyers and business professionals that make up the Board. To date, the SJC has been completely self-funded with modest resources raised through fundraising events and sponsorship from the City of Subiaco and several corporate donors. The organisation recently hired its first employee, a part-time General Manager to build capacity for its operations. The SJC is now poised to expand its offering and deliver a wide range of legal services to the community, particularly to those experiencing disadvantage.
